Chinese New Year. Water Rabbit
ELIZABETH
ARDEN
Embracing the concept of alchemy, where particles evoke a sense of magic and ancient elements, we explored a world where a single particle can transform into millions. The sky's the limit when particles are the core concept—they fluidly morph from everyday objects to abstract representations of data. The style and technique remain grounded even as the particles continually evolve, taking a journey from their initial movement to radical explosions. The technical challenge was ensuring these particles could seamlessly transform from one form to another while maintaining an exact count.
For the second year in a row, we had the pleasure of creating Elizabeth Arden’s Chinese New Year campaign TVC. This year, featuring the Water Rabbit, we brought a mystical rabbit to life, crafted from glistening droplets as it lights it's way through an enchanting, mossy forest.
In this lush forest, we nestled our products in cosy, hidden spots among the greenery. Using Houdini's scattering system and Quixel assets, we achieved incredibly dense moss without bogging down our render times. We rendered the products in two passes: first, a realistic in-situ pass, and second, a studio environment pass. This clever trick ensured a lifelike look without the forest's colours bleeding all over our products.
To add a touch of magic, we introduced gentle camera movements and liquid dynamics, bringing the scenes to life. Both the products and the environment are so beautifully lit and flawlessly rendered that it’s often hard to tell what’s real and what’s not. Inspired by Alice in Wonderland, the journey takes you from the house through a magical door into the heart of the forest.
